Dr. Martin is a physician and the founding Executive Director of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health in Washington, DC.

Between 1993-2011, he served as a Member of Parliament in Canada’s House of Commons holding portfolios in foreign affairs, international development, defense and health and founded Canada's first All- Party Conservation Caucus.

He served on numerous diplomatic missions to areas in crisis.

He has published over 180 editorial pieces, was a frequent commentator on television and radio and was appointed to the Queen's Privy Council for Canada.
